Helium-3 Polarimetry Collaboration Meeting

1. Meeting Frequency
Prajwal proposed reducing the recurring collaboration meeting from a biweekly schedule to a monthly schedule. Although originally scheduled every two weeks, the collaboration has effectively been meeting approximately once per month. Given the current pace of the project, the existing schedule is considered more frequent than necessary.
Decision: Future collaboration meetings will be held monthly.
2. Conceptual Design Report
Prajwal announced that a complete draft of the conceptual design report is now available internally. He emphasized that the version circulated with the meeting invitation is an early working draft intended only for preliminary review.
The numerical estimates and technical details are still undergoing internal verification. One round of review has already been completed with Bob, and additional review cycles are planned before the manuscript is circulated more broadly.
The collaboration was informed that there will be ample time for detailed comments before submission. The current target is submission to the Journal of Instrumentation (JINST) during the third week of August, assuming the internal review proceeds as planned.
3. Bates DOE Support
Following recent internal discussions at MIT Bates, Prajwal reported that Helium-3 activities will be incorporated into the Bates DOE documentation as both accomplishments from the previous year and planned activities for the coming year. This is intended to strengthen Bates' institutional commitment to the project.
Prajwal will prepare the updated language and circulate it for review. Jim Kelsey agreed to comment on the draft once it is available.
4. Future Paper Review
Rather than discussing the conceptual design report in detail during this meeting, the collaboration agreed that a separate meeting will be scheduled to review the manuscript once it has undergone additional internal revisions.
5. Conference Planning
PSTP 2026
Frank clarified that this year's PSTP conference will be held in Japan.
The collaboration reviewed the planned representation and concluded that the conference is already well covered. Frank will give presentations on the Atomic Beam Source and on hadron polarimetry, while Kiel is expected to present on the Booster polarimeter. Given this level of participation, Prajwal indicated that he does not plan to attend because of other project commitments.
MENU 2026
Prajwal highlighted the upcoming MENU conference, which will be held at Stony Brook from October 19–23, with abstracts due on August 1.
Although MENU primarily focuses on meson physics and nucleon structure, Prajwal noted that polarized beams and polarimetry fit naturally within its scientific scope. He plans to present work connecting fundamental symmetry measurements with Helium ABS and encouraged the collaboration to consider additional participation if appropriate.
6. MIT LNS Seminar Series
Prajwal discussed inviting BNL collaborators to present seminars in the MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science seminar series during the upcoming academic year.
He emphasized the importance of increasing the visibility of the BNL polarimetry program within MIT, noting that previous faculty search discussions suggested that many members of the broader community remain unaware of these activities.
Frank expressed interest in presenting and suggested that he now has sufficient material for a seminar. Possible topics include the Atomic Beam Source program and hadron polarimetry. Prajwal also proposed inviting Kiel to present a seminar during Spring 2027 on the Booster polarimeter.
Tentative dates of November 3 or November 10 were discussed for Frank's seminar, subject to his schedule and other commitments later in the semester.
